Ever wonder what life is truly like outside of Charlotte? This past weekend, I capitalized on a little autumn inspiration and popped over to a local creative hot spot called Create in Us in Gaston County–Mount Holly.

About Mount Holly

Mount Holly is a super-cute small town located west of the Catawba River (and Charlotte) and north of I-85. It’s named after the famed Mount Holly Cotton Mill that opened in the area in 1875. Textiles play a huge part of history (and modern industry!) in this area, so it’s not surprising to find an entire city named after a mill. According to Wikipedia, The Gaston County Economic Development Commission’s current manufacturing directory lists 19 manufacturing firms in the area, ten of which are textile related.

I was excited to get to spend a little “me” time dabbling in paint and making something pretty for my front porch. The class, hosted by Create in Us is a faith-based art studio that offers workshops for kids and adults in various crafts, bible study, and an annual retreat. You can connect with them on the web here, or join the discussion and register for workshops here.

My Experience

From the moment you drive up, there’s no mistaking you are in one of Gaston County’s finest small towns. Check out how cute and welcoming the front façade is! You can’t miss it, right off South Main Street!

The woodcut workshop offers a wide selection of holiday and whimsical wood cut out designs. I chose a monogrammed pumpkin, but there are plenty of options to cater to any taste!

After your selection, the presenter makes sure your selection is pre-cut and sanded. No fuss, no muss, just ready for fun!

All paints, brushes, embellishments, ribbons and tying string are provided, and there’s an ample retail space. You can also book parties or other events!

They have EVERYTHING you might need!

It’s not often that as a realtor, I can put my brain on hold and just “breathe and be”. I really enjoyed the laid-back fun and camaraderie of the other participants who spanned skill levels from total novice to pro-level.

Here’s the finished product!
